Hi! New here, former recluse, recovering recluse, active recluse, etc.

Hello all.

I'm 37, have had social anxiety issues since as long as i can remember. When i left high school, i dropped out of college after 3 days because of it then spent the next 5 years living in my room as a recluse.

I've since learned that there are some others out there with very similar experiences! I think its great to share especially when youre in the habit of making pessimistic assumptions about how the world will react to you, etc, but obviously its very hard to do for people like us.

So here i am, saying hi and hoping to be part of something good

Hey Rich, welcome to SAS.

Even if our scars donít match thereís no wrong you canít make better if you can figure out a way to change your mind.

And sure thereís things I regret not doing or doing. Those thoughts climb my spine like spiders, and then Iím really the stranger in my own bed,

and that ball of nervous gets pushed into every crack. Thatís whatís holding the bricks together.

All the recluse's in da house \m/(@[email protected])\m/

And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death
Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow,
A poor player that strut's and fret's his hour upon the stage and is heard no more,
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Well I'm at a point where im aggressively honest and open about as much as anyone is willing to listen to...

Just had 10 sessions of cbt, which worked more like an analytical type of therapy and was in a place at the time where i didnt try to undermine and invalidate any opinions which conflicted with my own, so it went very well. My life is still poop by most people's standards, but i feel able to deal with it slowly.

As for daily basis, i live alone, go to work, act like the weird guy in the corner and communicate via grunts and shakes of my head, run away or pretend to not hear people when they ask a question etc. Then come home, speak to people on omegle, etc. if i have thoughts to share or feel lonely, go to sleep rinse repeat.

I was a hikkikomori for 5 years after high school so its a pattern im ok with. This is bad in terms of making progress though because without suffering theres no need to change.

I also have kids too, but this is a long enough entry i guess so ill save that for the event that its of relevance to anyone here

Nice to meet you guys, thanks for the welcomes!

p.s. i dont think im a nice guy, but i want to be!

Hmm. I'm sitting here retyping this sentence over and over! Trying not to argue with the suggestion that i could actually be a nice person.

I've decided to not get hung up on these kinds of emotional / psychological / etc blockages, and instead just back it up, take a breath, and go around it. I'll just do the kind of stuff that nice people seem to be doing and see what happens as a result.

It's kind of a hack and not really addressing the cause of the issue, but it works for now and maybe the habits will stick. Thats the theory anyway...

Hi Lena btw, still cant send PMs but one day maybe
