How to decline a last minute birthday invitation

so i messaged a "friend" in facebook today at 8pm wishing him "happy birthday" and then he told me that some friends of his and him are going to a bar tonight which is near my home and if i wanted to come.

First of all i have not seen this "friend" in almost 5 years. I put "friends" in quotations because i dont really like him, he was always really negative and angry and thats one of the reasons i lost touch with him. Also, i dont want to go because i dont want to be seen as if i dont have anything to do. Two hour notice is way too little. And he only invited me because i wished him happy birthday on facebook

What should i tell him? How can i politely tell him that i cant go?

"Thanks for the invite, but I can't make it."

But since you don't like him, why not just unfriend him and stop wishing him happy birthdays?

"Sorry, I have other plans, I won't be able to make it, hope you all have a good time."

Enough about me, lets talk about you, what do you think about me?

Just don't go & ignore it say you had to shave your cat.

And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death
Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow,
A poor player that strut's and fret's his hour upon the stage and is heard no more,
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Would never have added that. You are way more civilised than most of us.

I used it myself a few days ago to politely decline something, where it was imperative I appeared totally sane and friendly hah.

If he's not the sort of person you'd like to spend time with - politely decline (if you can manage it) - then delete him from your friends list.

He no longer exists.

Hey

You can just politely decline and say you won't be able to make it. As it is, you haven't seen this person for a while and don't really like them!x

Much love <3
